A life for the underwater world
Wolfgang Brak on his journey, his vision and his responsibility
My name is Wolfgang Brak, and my first visit to the island of Embudu in 1979 marked the beginning of a chapter in my life that had a lasting impact on my personal and professional development. What began as a simple diving holiday developed into a lifelong passion—not only for diving itself, but for the ocean, its fascinating inhabitants, and especially for the unique island paradise of the Maldives.
The beauty and vulnerability of the underwater world have deeply touched me from the very beginning. I realized early on that it's not enough to simply admire these wonders – you also have to protect, preserve, and share them with others. In the decades that followed, I made numerous underwater films for various television stations and passionately advocated for the Maldives to receive the attention, respect, and protection they deserve.
Founding and establishing several dive centers in the Maldives was a logical next step for me. My philosophy was always guided by one clear principle:
How would I want to be received as a guest?
This simple yet powerful perspective has helped me create dive centers where people from all over the world feel welcome – with a high level of safety, professionalism, personal attention, and genuine passion for diving.
What makes me particularly proud is the large number of loyal guests who return year after year. Around 70% of our visitors are repeat customers – an impressive figure that validates my approach. But the greatest credit for this continuity and quality goes to my long-standing team. Many of my employees have been part of our Diverland family for years or even decades. Their experience, commitment, and loyalty are the foundation of our success.
At this point, I would like to particularly highlight my current business partner, Jan Gehriger (Janosc). Without his expertise, organizational talent, and people skills, the current level of quality and professionalism in the management of our bases would be unthinkable.
I'm also delighted that we 've been able to recruit Jürgen Rudorf, one of our most experienced dive center managers, for a key new role: He's taken over overall quality control for all Diverland dive centers. Together with the entire team, he ensures that our guests experience the highest level of safety, quality of experience, and personal attention on every atoll, on every island, and on every dive.
Because ultimately, it's about much more than just diving. It's about fulfilling dreams . It's about creating memories that will take our guests back to their everyday lives with a smile on their faces. We've never lost sight of this goal – and it remains our daily drive.
With kind regards
